Girls Scouts Horsemanship Clinics
A Girl Scout Horsemanship Clinic is a great way for your troop to enjoy a horse ride, work on a badge, and have fun!
- We will design the clinic to meet the needs of your troop.
- Horsemanship Clinics are not limited to Girl Scouts. They are open to any group that is interested in learning more about horses.
- Listed below are common clinic descriptions. Each clinic can be adjusted to meet the specific needs of your group.
- A troop can also schedule a trail ride if they do not want the full clinic.
- Troops are allowed to bring horse treats to feed the horses. You can find recipes on the intenet (please check the recipe ingredients with horsemanship staff).
Conditions
Please make note of the following conditions.
- All riders for must be at least 9 years old.
- Horsemanship clinics run at least one hour and not more than three hours.
- Minimum attendance is at least 6, maximum is 30. Groups over 10 will be split into two groups, groups over 20 will be split into three groups and may need more time.
- Helmets are provided for all riders, though participants may bring their own approved riding helmets.
- There is a $50 deposit to hold your clinic day and time. Multiple day clinics will need to provide a $200 deposit. The deposit must be paid upon receipt of the emailed agreement. It is non-refundable if cancelled less than two weeks before event.
We have approved cirriculums for the following Girl Scout Ranks: Junior, Cadette, and High School
All clinics or trail rides are $20 per hour per participant. We can pro-rate your total according to the amount of time you schedule.
Girl Scouts Fan Badge
Fee: $30 per student
Our basic clinic for the Girl Scouts Horse Fan Badge teaches general knowledge of caring for horses and riding. This clinic will meet Horse Fan requirements 2 and 7 and part of 1 and 6. The fee includes a hour long trail ride ($20.00) and a 40 minute horsemanship lessons ($10.00). Parents and troop leaders may accompany the girls on the trail ride for $20.00 per adult or leader, but they do not have to pay for the lesson portion of the clinic.
The horse care lessons will cover the following topics: feeding, facility upkeep, grooming and saddling, equine industry careers and basic horse care skills.
Girl Scouts Horse Rider Badge
Clinic Title: Girl Scouts Horse Rider Badge
Time Length: 3h
Fee: $60 per student
This badge teaches in depth beginner horsemanship skills. It is a three hour clinic with a maximum of 15 students. For troops with more than 15 girls, we can extend the clinic another hour for and extra $20 - maximum 20.
There are three parts to this badge:
Part 1 - Learning how to groom and tack a horse by yourself and the tools needed - requirements 1 and 4
Part 2 - Riding lesson, depending on skill level of students we may not achieve trotting skills of the badge - requirements 3 and 9
Part 3 - Horsemanship safety - requirement 6
If troops would like to build on this badge, they may schedule another lesson time.
