Ready to move past the basics of riding? Advanced-W allows riders to create their own drill team routine, learn how to vault and ride bareback. There are sunset trail rides and lessons with different style saddles. Visit other equine facilities to gain some incite into what the horse world could hold for you - for fun or maybe a career. This week will definitely take your love of horses to the next level.

Session Leadership

The session leader for this week is Bethany Peelman the Phantom Ranch Horsemanship Director. She will be working with the girls and their counselors throughout the day. Bethany started working at Phantom Ranch fall of 2009. Prior to that she was involved at two other Christian camps.

The Lead Horsemanship Instructor will be Krista Mayer. Krista has been working with horsemanship at Phantom Ranch since 2002. She is a graduate of State University of New York, Morriville, B.A. Equine Sciences.

Packing Information

Horsemanship Equipment Needs:

  • Helmet: Each rider needs to wear a helmet when riding. Phantom Ranch provides an approved helmet. Riders can choose to bring their own riding helmet, these can be stored in lockers at the horse barn.
  • Footwear: Riding boots, hiking boots, or other heavy shoe is recommended for use around the horses. Gym shoes are allowed. Sandals are not allowed.
  • Pants: Long pants must be worn while riding or around the horses.

The rest of your camp gear should include at least pillows, sleeping bags, camera, swimsuits(no two pieces, only one piece swimsuits are allowed at camp), your Bible, clothes you are not afraid to get dirty,a pair of gym shoes, a pen or pencil, and toiletries.

Please do not bring any type of music players, cell phones, video game players, laptops, and any similar item. These are expensive items and Phantom Ranch will not be held responsible if items are broken, lost, or stolen during your week at camp.

Off Grounds Activities

The campers will be leaving the camp grounds for at least 2 field trips. Further information will be included in the camper registration information. We are looking forward to a clinic at a nearby riding stable to learn and practice barrel racing.
